About Pakistan Property Update

Last updated: 5 August 2026

Pakistan Property Update publishes free, independent information for overseas Pakistanis who own, are buying, or expect to inherit property in Pakistan.

It exists because the information these readers need is either unavailable, out of date, or written by people with an interest in the answer. A search for how to check a land record or how to attest a power of attorney returns property portals, law firm marketing, and in many cases guidance written for a different country entirely.

Who publishes it

Dr. Syed Tahir Hijazi is a development economist. He holds a PhD from Clark University, has served as a member of Pakistan's Planning Commission, and has been Vice Chancellor at Pakistani universities. He has worked on donor-funded assignments for the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, UNDP, USAID and the ILO, and is the author of several books in English and Urdu, including The Builder and the Court.

He lives in Massachusetts, United States. He owns no property being written about on this site, sells no property, and represents no developer, dealer or housing scheme.

What this site does

It publishes guides on the procedures overseas Pakistanis actually face — verifying land records, understanding what an allotment letter proves, granting and cancelling a power of attorney, recovering occupied property, claiming an inheritance share, and the tax that applies. It publishes a weekly newsletter on rule and fee changes. It reports property transactions that Pakistani publications have reported, with the publication named.

What it does not do

It does not sell property, list plots, or value anything. See the Disclaimer.
