How to keep possession without living in Pakistan

Ownership on record and possession on the ground are different things, and an empty plot invites the second to drift away from the first.

Physical measures

• Build a boundary wall with a gate — the single most effective step
• Fix a permanent name board with your name and CNIC number
• Keep the plot clear so encroachment is visible
• Build a small structure where society rules permit — a room signals active possession

Paper measures

• Keep property tax paid in your own name, and keep every receipt
• Keep utility connections in your name where they exist
• Written, signed caretaker agreement stating possession is held on your behalf
• Dated photographs at least once a year
• Any tenancy in writing, for a fixed term, with rent paid into your account

WHY THE PAPERWORK MATTERS AS MUCH AS THE WALL If possession is ever disputed, the question is who can prove continuous control. Tax receipts in your name, dated photographs and a signed caretaker agreement are that proof. Verbal arrangements with relatives are not.
